Wirral RFU – Wednesday 27th October.

The October meet of the LCRTL was held at Wirral RFU last Wednesday (27th).

The league has been running for two years and we have grown from three teams to six with expressions of interest coming through from other clubs to join.

The concept was to offer a Touch development opportunity for clubs in and around the Liverpool City Region, which includes the Wirral, to meet up monthly to develop their Touch game, through friendly league competition. LCRTL is a mixed gender and all-inclusive league.

Currently teams from Caldy, Otterspool, Liverpool Tritons, Wirral RFU and Chester have been playing regularly. We hope the value of providing this league supports respective Rugby Clubs visions of having multiple teams within their organisation.

The evening was a great success, despite the threat of storm Agnes!

As the light was against us in terms of available playing time, Caldy Cobras, Wirral Tigers, Liverpool Tritons, Otters, Chester Centurions and Old Alsamians, who came down for the first time, played a series of round robin, 10-minute games. The games had qualified Touch referees to ensure consistency to the rules, which also helps with the teams’ development.

Tap off was at 6.30pm, with the games being largely equal in results with only a couple of try’s difference in each game.

This time round the winners where Caldy Cobras, winning four and drawing one game.

Joint second was Centurions and Otters with Tigers in third place and then Alsamians and then Tritons.

LCRTL runs every month. The date can vary but tends to be within the third week of the month. This is because each month a different team hosts, and so pitch availability is taken into consideration. It also means players can enjoy the social side of Touch back in each respective club house, which helps supports the club.

Next month, October, Tritons are hosting, and we will be going to New Brighton RFU (new home for Liverpool Tritons) and will be on Monday (16 or 23, tbc) October tap off 7pm

Liverpool Otters
