Dear Rugby Enthusiast

I’d like to take a moment to share some exciting news about the Cheshire Rugby Football Union (Cheshire RFU). As the governing body for rugby union in Cheshire, England, we operate under the esteemed Rugby Football Union (RFU) and are dedicated to developing, organizing, and promoting rugby throughout the county.

Our efforts encompass a range of activities, including running County Representative Teams for men, women, U20s, and age-grade sides (U18, U17, U16) the Senior Mens and Womens team  compete in the RFU County Championships. With a rich heritage dating back to 1875, Cheshire has produced notable England internationals such as Steve Smith and Dewi Morris.

We are proud to support around 45 affiliated local clubs, providing governance, development support, coach education, and refereeing structures. Some of these clubs include Bowdon, Wilmslow, Winnington Park, Macclesfield, Birkenhead Park, and Sandbach. Our commitment to grassroots rugby sees us focusing on player pathways from junior to senior levels, and we actively work with schools and colleges to encourage rugby participation.

Volunteer and community engagement are at the heart of our mission. We coordinate initiatives to support volunteers, referees, and coaches, while also promoting diversity, inclusion, and safeguarding. Additionally, we organize events and celebrations such as the Cheshire Cup and Plate competitions, and we are already planning major anniversary events for our 150-year celebrations in 2025-2026, including dinners, heritage publications, and community rugby festivals.

To further enhance local support and improve communication between the Cheshire Board and clubs, we have established three area Groups —West, Central, and East—with a separate group  for the Isle of Man. These Area Groups  will meet quarterly, report action points to the monthly board meetings, and engage clubs in local rugby initiatives. Each group  includes roles such as Communication Lead, Youth Council representative, Coaching Developer Lead, and others.

We are currently recruiting for several Area Group  Roles and invite you to join us in making a difference in the rugby community. If you are passionate about rugby and interested in any of the following volunteer opportunities, please click on the link below:
