Club Bio

Liverpool Tritons was formed in 2016 as Merseyside’s first Inclusive Men’s Rugby Union Team.  Since then we have played across the UK and at international tournaments.  We are a member of Lancashire RFU and a full member of IGR (International Gay Rugby).  Liverpool Tritons Men’s Rugby Union Team plays in the IGR UK League North Division against other inclusive teams, and in friendly games against local clubs.

The team provides a safe and welcoming space for gay, bisexual, straight and trans men.  The Club welcomes those who are experienced or new to the sport and at all fitness levels.

New players are taught the basics and encouraged to learn by joining in, with a patient team helping them through their first few training sessions and games.  In the first two months of the Club, 16 players played their first ever games of rugby.

You may be aware that the Rugby Football Union (RFU), the governing body for rugby union in England, introduced changes to their Gender Participation Policy on Friday, 29 July 2022.  We are currently working with International Gay Rugby to fight the policy which excludes trans women and places further barriers on trans men taking part in rugby union.  In the meantime we have to ensure compliance until this policy is overturned.
