Match Report – Cheshire Under 16’s –V- Lancashire U16’s

Venue:- Bowden Rugby Club
Date:- Sunday 25th October 2015
Cheshire 50pts, Lancashire 7pts.

Cheshire received the ball from the Lancashire kick off.  Immediately Cheshire went on the attack the ball was passed to Tom Walsh who made an incisive run through the Lancashire defense until he was brought to ground just outside the their 22m line.  Cheshire continued to put the pressure on Lancashire which resulted in Tom Walsh yet again showing his pace and skills to step through and score the first try for Cheshire after 10 minutes of play, the score was unconverted, 5 -0

From the re-start Cheshire stepped up a gear resulting in a penalty in front of the Lancashire posts which again was unconverted.

Lancashire re-grouped and began to settle down pushing Cheshire back into their 22m.  The Cheshire defense sustained 15 minutes of pressure until Joe Murphy stole the ball from a ruck to break out creating an incredible passing sequence, with Rouban Birch going in for a score

10-0; Cheshire went on to score a further three tries in the first half through Conar Doherty, Tom Walsh and James Sherlock.  All the Cheshire conversion were taken by Jack Pritchard.

Lancashire gain a score through an interception by Jamie Morris which was converted.  The half time score 29-7 to Cheshire.

The second half was much of the same, replacements were made by Cheshire early into the second half which made no difference to their dominance over Lancashire  Both halves saw the Cheshire forwards working hard to maintain dominance through front row Niall Cooney, Max Wood, James Sherlock, Conor Wordley and Saad Khalil.  Second rows Sam Gregory, Joe Murphy, Matt Ellerby and Harry Wilkinson The back row unit of Rouban Birch, Teddy Leatherbarrow, Owen Roberts, Nikou Christos.  These players work extremely hard throughout the game and displayed their unrelenting levels of fitness.  When cracks began to show and play began to be a little sloppy they supported each and maintain their continuity.  They were a credit to the County shirt and should be very proud of themselves.

Further tries in the second half came from Teddy Leatherbarrow, Rouban Birch and Dominic Duggan and the conversion this half were taken by Cameron Redpath.  All in all a more than satisfactory performance by Cheshire under 16’s.  Congratulations to everyone.
