Leo McParland – Captain Birkenhead Park in the 1957-1958 season (Centre middle row)

It is with deep regret that we must report the death of former Birkenhead Park Captain, Leo McParland, on 3rd September. Leo was an outstanding back row forward and captained Birkenhead Park during the 1957-58 season and played 16 times for Cheshire between the 1952/53 season and the 1957/1958 season his position was open side wing forward and he was awarded his Cheshire colours. He captained Park for the 1957-1958 season and was on the bench for the North of England game against Australia.

He represented Birkenhead Park on the Cheshire RFU committee for 3 years between 1964 and 1967.

Leo funeral service will take place at St Agnes Church, Darmond’s Green, West Kirby CH48 5DU on Thursday 18th September at 12 noon.
