I am and always have been a firm believer that the strength of our game must be built up from firm foundations and to this end, it is my intention during my year in office to visit as many of the clubs in the County as possible.I look forward to watching the games and afterwardsto meeting the members of each Club.
May I wish you all and your Clubs the enjoyable season we all seek.

Wirral resident David Ewing has been elected to represent Cheshire on the RFU Council from July 2010 replacing the long serving Mike Lord. Having been forced to retire as a player at the age of 20 with a detached retina, received whilst playing for Old Birkonians, David spent 4 years with the Liverpool and District Referee Society, before setting up a Colts side at Old Birkonians. He was invited to join the Cheshire Colts committee in 1974, and was appointed a North of England Colts selector in 1975. He has been involved with Cheshire and the North ever since becoming Chairman of North under 18 clubs in 2001 and elected President of Cheshire in 2002. He is also currently Cheshire Chairman of Youth Rugby. From a sporting family his father, Bill Ewing, served on the Badminton Association of England and his elder brother Roger Ewing also sits on the BA of E. His other brother Bryan was chairman of North Colts. David also played Cricket for Cheshire and is currently Chairman of Cricket at Oxton Cricket and Sports club that play in the premier division of the Cheshire County League. David was Ewing was elected by a majority vote at Cheshire RFU meeting and he will be set for busy period at Twickenham where he is determined to represent the interests of Cheshire RFU & North of England Rugby in general.
Delivering our Strategic Objectives - Some Changes in Community Rugby Posted by Web Administrator on Friday, 5th February 2010 at 3:20PM
Peter Rhodes (President), Colin Free (Chairman of Executive), Bryan Davies (Hon. Treasurer) & Bob Lewis (Asst. Hon. Sec.) attended a meeting at Preston Grasshoppers RFC last night. The concerns of the representatives from Cheshire, Cumbria & Lancashire where presented to Andrew Scoular (RFU Community Director) as part of the RFU consultation process. We feel sure that these concerns with regard to the change of RDO title, lower minimum entry qualifications etc have been taken on board. The three Counties represented have already been at the fore front of changes to CB strategic planning, the roles of the RDO’s & Community Rugby Coaches with Clubs, schools & other outside bodies and the way those people are managed by the Regional Rugby Development Officer Dave Southern. Although there will be some adjustment to the areas/clubs that the RDO’s deal with this will have little impact on their overall workload.
Bryan Davies – questioned the financial implications which we were assured were no worse than neutral if not a saving of one or two per cent of budget. He also enquired about the overall CB budget going forward and Mr Scoular appeared to be reasonably positive about future real term increases.
Although for Cheshire this will mean relatively little change we understand that other Counties will feel more wide ranging changes

MINI & JUNIOR SUB COMMITTEE - STRUCTURE CHANGE AND WIDENING OF SCOPE Posted by Richard Elliot on Tuesday, 22nd June 2010 at 3:42PM
It has been generally agreed that whilst the re-creation of the Committee had been a success that we had achieved little else other than organising this season’s Cups and Festivals and putting forward changes for next season. It was a concern of the Executive that information and issues are not being communicated to the right people in clubs and the CB are not receiving feedback on all the issues and concerns from the Mini & Junior Sections of clubs.

County Championship 2010 Posted by Web Administrator on Thursday, 17th June 2010 at 1:01PM
Having fought our way back into the Premier division, thus competing for the ‘Bill Beaumont Cup once again, I suppose it would not have been unreasonable to set our sight on survival, rather than continuing our somewhat yo-yo existence of up and down, and up again. Not a bit of it; David Partington, Roger Blake and Peter Sherratt were aiming for the top – back at Twickenham again looking to win the Cup not the Shield. Disappointingly, we failed, but only just, and gloriously too. If we did but know it, we were within an ace of heading the Northern Section, and considering the ‘hand’ that we were dealt, huge credit must go to not only the management for putting together a squad which excelled itself, but also equal credit must go to the players who made up that squad and gave their all in Cheshire’s cause, at the end of a long and hard season. Congratulations to all involved.

Cheshire RFU SoR Nomination and Assessment Posted by Web Administrator on Wednesday, 19th August 2009 at 3:24PM
Nomination for the SoR is primarily from the U13/U14 district development squads, the U15 district/County squads and the U16 County squad. Schools and clubs should, therefore, nominate any potential SoR players for one of these squads, as appropriate, and NOT directly to the SoR. It is important, therefore, that prospective SoR players and their coaches and parents are aware of the nomination process and programme for these squads. For information on the nominations process and 2009/10 programmes for:
(a) the U13 and U14 district development squads - click here,
(b) the U15 district representative squads and County squad - click here,
There is also provision for direct nomination from a school or club to the SoR in exceptional circumstances - see the document on the Operation of the Cheshire RFU SoR.
For a diagram of the nominations and feedback routes - click here
Nominations for the SoR must be made by a representative of the District/County squad management completing an SoR Nominee assessment form.
An SoR nominee assessment form must be completed for anyone being nominated by a school or club direct to the SoR via the “exceptions” route. It must also be accompanied by a note explaining why the nomination should be considered. Where the nominee is currently playing rugby, it is expected that the player would have been observed by an SoR representative before an invitation is issued to attend an SoR session.
All nominations must be accompanied by an SoR player registration form completed by the player’s parent/guardian/carer
All completed forms should be sent to Jane Cliff, SoR Administrator, preferably by email. Janecliff@therfu.com
There is no obligation on the SoR to accept a nomination.
Players will be assessed at each SoR session and formal feedback will be given periodically (usually once or twice each season). It is expected that players will share this feedback with their coaches and parents so that they can tailor their individual development programme accordingly. SoR coaches will be available to give further advice if required.

Cheshire RFU School of Rugby: Introduction Posted by Web Administrator on Wednesday, 19th August 2009 at 3:13PM
The RFU’s School of Rugby (SoR) programme aims to identify and develop young players and athletes who have the potential to play at the elite levels of the game in England. It provides a route for players into the England Rugby Academy system through the Elite Player Development Group (EPDG). Cheshire RFU operates one School of Rugby (SoR). The Administrator is Jane Cliff. Jane is the first point of contact for players, their parents and their school or club representative.
The prime method of communicating to players, schools, clubs and representative squad officials is by email. Jane’s email address is janecliff@therfu.com. Announcements will also be made periodically on this SoR web page.
