Schools section – Cheshire Growing the Game
Cheshire County Schools Union’s recent Year 7 Festival was a great
success, with 24 schools taking part at Stockport Rugby Club and The
Grange School, following a waterfall format. Matches were refereed by
school staff, providing playing opportunities for more than 450 pupils.
Feedback from players, staff and parents was extremely positive and
the inaugural festival will now be followed by Year 7, 8 and 9 Age
Grade competitions next year, when it’s hoped to attract the growing
number of CBRE All Schools.
Says Hugo Corbett DOR Stockport Grammar School & Chair of Cheshire CSU: “A great deal of work
has been done to increase the number of schools involved in CSU activity, including the introduction
of two-tier tournaments and the adoption of the waterfall format, allowing schools to choose their
appropriate level. This has doubled numbers of schools involved and couldn’t have happened without
the support of numerous volunteers and teachers from across the county.”
