Cheshire Mitsubishi awards Presentation

Richard Graham Congratulations to Richard Graham from Chester and Paula Bradbury from Winnington Park who are photographed receiving their Cheshire Mitsubishi awards at the recent presentations in the Gallagher’s dealerships of Sandycroft and Warrington. They now go forward to the National final at Twickenham on September 15th, where the three overall winners will be announced with the prize being the use of a Mitsubishi vehicle for a year.

Richard set up touch rugby at MBNA business and now has a base of 75 people playing the game during the week. He has also taken ownership of the O2 touch programme at Chester which was floundering till his agreement now has seen the membership of touch at the club exceed 150 members with 5 of them representing England group levels.

Richard commented “I am honoured to have been nominated for the award and it was an amazing surprise to go on to be representing this region in the national final.  I feel that without the hard work of others at the club, I would not be in this position and would like to thank all involved at Chester RUFC and Chester Cheetahs Touch Club for their continued support.  I have to say that I just wanted people to play Touch with, and what we have achieved at the club makes me very proud to be part of it!”

Paula BradburyPaula has helped to setup and run a girls and ladies section at Winnington. With her constant work Winnington now have girls at all ages for next season and a women’s team also. She also heads up the running and co-ordination of the County girls programme alongside the girl’s rugby and running her own age group. Paula helps to lead the Cheshire W&G Forum and attends all the CBRDP meetings within Cheshire and supporting the development of PFR across the county for W&G.

Paula says “I know there are many other deserving volunteers out there, but I’m grateful for the recognition because it brings public awareness to girls and ladies rugby and what we are trying to achieve, which is to give everyone the opportunity to take part in this great game, no matter age, ability and previous experience. There is a place for everyone on a rugby pitch and I feel proud to be able to help with moving this area of the game forward. “

We wish them every success and hope they enjoy their weekend

England Counties U20 began their tour of the Netherlands with a 36-8 win over Holland A at the National Stadium in Amsterdam.

A physical Holland side put pressure on the visitors early on but England’s defence held firm and they took a 3-0 after 10 minutes with a penalty from Fraser Honey.

The hosts soon levelled the score before Counties began to assert control over the game. After 20 minutes Nick Ashcroft scored an impressive try after multiple phases which Honey converted.

Winger Charlie Venebales and scrum-half Josh Nott then dotted down soon after with Honey slotting both conversions to make it 24-3 at half time.

England began the second half with all the momentum and scored early on through Ollie Burgess who pounced on an error from the hosts to dive over from two metres out. The conversion was missed making it 29-3.

And the scored stayed that way for most of the second half with both sides showing their defensive strength.

But England were able to extend their lead when Connor Wilkinson got on the end of another error to touch down under the posts which was once again converted.

Holland were able to grab a late consolation try to make it 36-8 at the final whistle in what proved to be a good test for England Counties ahead of a match against a Holland side featuring the majority of the senior team in Watergaareden in North Holland this Saturday, 2.30pm kick off.
