Cheshire A v Lancashire A on March 23rd at Wilmslow RFC.
Cheshire A 36 points Lancashire A 12 points.
This was our third attempt to play this game in this very wet winter. After our disappointing game against Yorkshire Cheshire played much better and were deserved winners against a Lancashire team which had earlier beaten Yorkshire. We led 10 points to 0 at half time with two tries by Sam Oakes. Lancashire hit back after half time to lead 12-10. In the last 20 minutes of the game Cheshire played some exciting rugby and tries were scored by Callum Gleave, Tom Roebuck and James Rooney.
Cheshire A and B v Kent A and B on March 29th at Lymm RFC.
Cheshire A 5 points Kent A 14 points.
Cheshire B 24 points Kent B 12 points.
In dreadful conditions the two games were shortened in time by 50% and both games were a lottery. In the end honours were even with the B team playing really well to defeat Kent B. Conditions became even worse for the A match and it was almost impossible to play any rugby. Kent scored two converted tries to Cheshire’s one converted try to win the match.
2010 was the first time that we played Kent at this level when Cameron Neild and James Mitchell were mere boys! Unfortunately with the plans to constrict the season next year to enable the season to finish by the end of January this was the last time that we will play Kent at 15s so it was very unfortunate that the fixture had to end in such appalling conditions. Whilst saying that nearly 100 boys represented their counties yesterday and Lymm RFC looked after us very well as usual.
15 group rugby is about development and that is why we run A and B teams but it is worth noting that over the last 10 years the A sides have had a 75% success rate and the B sides at about 60%.
