This is a great opportunity to recognise the efforts and contributions made by volunteers across Cheshire at our clubs that enable many people to have a great rugby experience. The correspondence I had following my previous emails highlighted a number of people whose activities deserve recognition.

Match report. Cheshire U15 v Lancashire U15

Lancashire A 10 points Cheshire A 41 points

Lancashire B 17 points Cheshire B 22 points

Both games were played at Southport RFC on Sunday March 8th.

Cheshire continued their dominance over Lancashire at this age group with two fine wins. Cheshire A started very slowly and conceded an early try but hit back quickly to lead at half time 12 – 5. We completely dominated the second half and played some exciting open rugby with our two centres in sparkling form. The forwards gained dominance during the second half and gave a very good platform for the backs to exhibit their running skills.

The B game was much closer even though Cheshire took a 15 point lead to half time. We made changes at half time to give everyone a game and this knocked us off our stride and Lancashire came back very strongly and scored 17 points to take the lead. Cheshire scored a late try to win an exciting game.

Lancashire was not going to play a B fixture for reasons of economy not for rugby reasons but we are grateful to Southport RFC for offering to fund the B match. Cheshire see the A and B players as one squad with boys mixing and matching between A and B levels as we find this is the best way for development at this age group. Yorkshire adopts the same policy but Lancashire does not and I am sorry that the county ties were not presented to the B squad in the accustomed fashion. I hope that this did not detract from the occasion.

The next training session will be held at St Ambrose College on Monday March 23rd starting at 5pm.

Unfortunately Wirral grammar lost in the semi-final of the NatWest cup competition but they should be very proud of their achievement in getting so far.
