Congleton win QBE Rugby Pro Competition

Rugby clubs across the country are today celebrating the news that they will be training with Premiership Rugby stars after QBE, the business insurance specialist, announced the winners of its Rugby Pro competition.

Twelve grassroots rugby clubs have each won a specialist training session with three top Premiership Rugby players and coaches. These sessions will be specially designed by Premiership Rugby coaches to address each winning club’s specific training needs. In addition, each club will receive £1,000 worth of kit.

QBE, Official Business Insurance Partner of Premiership Rugby, has rewarded clubs who demonstrated the benefits a specialist training session would give them. This competition is part of QBE’s commitment to the development of rugby as it gives amateur clubs the chance to hone their skills under the expert guidance of professionals.

Winners of this year’s QBE Rugby Pro include the first XV at HMS Sultan and Upton-upon-Severn RFC. The judges were impressed by the commitment and desire to play rugby shown by the players from HMS Sultan and their close affiliation with Naomi House children’s hospice. Upton-upon-Severn impressed the judges with their community spirit having rebuilt the club after devastating floods just four years ago.

Elliot Miller, QBE General Manager UK National, commented: “We are delighted with the interest that QBE Rugby Pro has attracted this year and the standard of entries has been very high. The competition is designed to recognise and reward the efforts of non-professional clubs and we look forward to providing them with tailored training sessions to help them develop their own specialist skills.”

The competition was judged by a panel which included members of the media, Premiership Rugby and QBE.
